As a ‘pro-porn’ pornstar- I think most porn is harmful.

tumblinfeminist:

I say this as a sex worker and porn performer. One of the hardest parts of my job is not being able to speak about it in a negative light without alienating my customers/followers, not to mention potential employers.

I think there is a lot of ‘feminist porn’ that I consider non-harmful. It portrays healthy, realistic and respectful sex that is still hot as hell. There is also a lot of GLBT pornography that falls into this category. The problem is, all of these healty portrayals of sex: how much of the pornography market do they make up? 1%? 5% at a push?

The majority of pornography is degrading, senseless, emotionless, male pleasure orientated, and often brutal fake nonsense. I believe is scars children, commodifies its performers and commonly creates an unrealistic expectation and social norm that can be (and is IMO) dangerous to mental health and sexuality.

Most people who watch pornography will deny this. They will often say they are the exception that proves the rule. They don’t like degrading acts or it doesn’t effect them. That they are the one women who likes being anally banged by three men with 50ft cocks while being smothered in corn syrup. They often do not see that perhaps the reason these things seem to ‘not effect’ them is because these things are now considered socially acceptable, they have become desensitized and the norm.

Even the nicest of the nice- if you’ve ever seen pornography you’ve been biased. You’ve been changed. Even if you haven’t it’s now culturally ingrained. You are not the exception that proves the rule. You are not a special snowflake.

The majority of my male sexual partners have been of this opinion. They believe themselves to be unaffected- not changed in any way by viewing pornography. And yet most if not all of them considered asking for deep-throating, anal sex and to ejaculate on me as if its the normal. It was expected of me- because everyone does it… in porn land. And now in real life too.

I have nothing against those who do like those things. I have nothing against those actions and fetishes. I am however against the view that they are normal, that they are expected- and that I as a female am expected to do them.

I do not like oral sex that is painful or uncomfortable. I do not like having sperm, piss, shit, vomit, snot or any other bodily fluid all over me at any time- especially not during sex or on my face. I do not ever like anal sex- although I’ll do it every now and again because it’s a fetish for someone I love. I find all of the above humiliating, degrading and disgusting. But in a world where these are the social norms I am considered a prude, could easily loose my job and all my business, not to mention my lovers should I publicly say so, or say how much I dislike these things.

I really hope that that 1-5% of consensual, realistic, respectful pornography which shows all parties enjoying themselves becomes the norm. I really, truly do and as a pornography performer I will do everything in my small amount of power to make it so. However, I am not hopeful.
